.An early wake up call, we had a 6:15 train to Porto. We took a Taxi to the station and grabbed a couple of breakfast sandwiches and drinks just before the train leaves , we know it will be our only meal till we get to Porto.
For some reason the train stopped prior to leaving Spain, everyone got out and got on the waiting train before crossing borders. This was our first time to visit Portugal, our stop was the last one. We had a long walk coming up to get to our hotel, we should have done more research that would have saved us a lot of walking. Getting off the train we went across the street and bought our selves some sandwiches and drinks, we dint have that many Euros so we were careful not to spend to much.
After about a 45 minute walk we reached the Teatro Hotel, themed after the theater across the street in the old part of Porto and just about a block from the other train station in Porto ( the one we should have taken a 5-10 ride on to save a 45 minute hot walk)
For some reason our hotel room had a sign on the door that we were special guest, maybe all the IHG points we had. We got cleaned up and headed out to the town. Porto is beautiful , lots of streets for pedestrians only, lots of shops, cafeterias , restaurants, we walked for hours and some how ending up by the river which is on the lowest part of town in elevation and ended up having to take a funicular up towards our hotel. We wanted to do something special , so we booked the Douro Valley tour for the next day, we were told were to meet and to meet in the morning.
