July 10th

In the morning we leave Madrid after having our last brunch at the hotel Mercure.  We fill our stomachs and head down to Atocha one last time, but at Atocha we are told that the train does not go straight.  We have to go to Alhuenez, then change trains to go on to Cuenca.  We get to the station ahead of time so we have an hour to wait.

We arrived in Cuenca at about 3 pm and caught a bus to our AirBnB host; who lives at the  beginning of the Casco Viejo - the Old City.  He greets us and gives us information on places we must see.  We shower and get new energy before going out for the town.

Lots of history here, dating back over 500 years.  We walk the bridge which was built in 1903 with the same designer as the Eifel Tower.  The walk across the bridge was breathtaking....even if Carmen was hanging on tightly to my arm.  She was pushing down her nerves, and finally relaxed to enjoy it.

It is a steep climb, we walk up and up to the Parador.  It was lots of walking, because it was Monday, many places were closed.  We end up having dinner near the top of the old town, lots of meats cooked differently.
We were able to see the lights of the homes that hang over the cliff.  Walking the streets of the town at night was peaceful and beautiful.  One can imagine the days of former travelers and former inhabitants.  The streets are similar to the ones in San Miguel de Allende, made of cobbled stones.

Carmen takes a short video so that she can hear the clicking of the shoes on the stones later.  A beautiful night, we enjoyed the walk up and down the hills, we see aqueducts and even rock climbers when we venture of the main street.  Once we get back to the AirBnB I feel tired, but the daily routine of finding a hotel my last ultimate rewards points.  I make the train reservations.
Choices are €15 for a 3 hour and 47 minute ride making stops at all the small towns or €30 for about an hour ride on the AVE Spain's High Speed Trains

Carmen votes for cheaper ride so she can have money for other things.
