Aviles to Cudillero

Wow what a day!  Slept great, Carmen and I had beds touching next to each other at the Albergue last night.  During the night it rained and thankfully I woke up to go to the restroom and remembered our clothes hanging outside to dry from the wash yesterday.

Carmen woke up worried about my brakes and all the rain coming down.  We tried to leave but she wanted me to have my brakes looked at.  The bike store that was close by did not open until 10 am  so it meant  two plus hours wasted away.

We rode to another bike shop suggested by the albergue host.  In order not to waste so much time we thought we would get to the area and have coffee while we waited for the shop to open up, but after getting there we saw that there weren't any shops around.

We waited for about 40 minutes and had some cheese, bread and marmalade hiding under the overhang of the bicycle shop to stay dry. Right at 9:30 the owner opened up the shop and took us in right away.  He put his other work aside to take care of my bike.  Both the front an back brakes were worn out.  I had them replaced and contacted the bicigrino person and sent him the invoice.  I had to pay the 25€ to get them fixed.
Finally out of town in a heavy mist and rode a couple of hours before stopping for lunch in Soto de Luina .
Just as we were leaving the pilgrim from Norway whom I had talked to last night told us about an upcoming town named Cudillero, a seaside town like the Cinque Terre, in Italy. Carmen during the ride had been telling me about her jelly legs so I thought about finding a good place to stop to make it a shorter day of riding.

As we continued to ride, I saw the sign to Cudillero and without telling Carmen decided to go see the town.  I did not think it would be such a steep drop in elevation into the town for the last two or three kilometers. Still raining we rode into town and after walking around we decided not to ride back up the mountain, as we were tired.  We go a hotel at Cudillero for about 65€,  we quickly got cleaned up and walked the town.  We bought a few items and took lots of pictures.  We ended up eating dinner of papas aoli and shrimp with octopus all cut up in butter, garlic and olive oil. In the video below, we are trying out the local cider, it was a terrible bitter taste, drank about half a glass out of the full bottle, luckily it was only a couple of Euros.

Again we had turron ice cream and lots of pastries.  We went into the town church for a short time.  On the way back to the hotel we saw a taxi and asked if they could take us up the hill in the morning.  I got the number on the street sign, took a photo and had planned on calling them in the morning to get us back to the Camino.
