Unquera to San Esteban

After taking the scenic trail by the sea we went to the beach at Playa de San Antolin.  At the swim, the water was warmer than San Sebastian, but the day was colder.  There was an opening in the mountain as it came out of the sea.  But a little too far to swim out to, the water was clear, very few people out on the water, at one time just Carmen and I.

We walked the beach and collected a few rocks and met a young German Couple who are spending their summer in a converted van that they did themselves.  They did not want a big van because it would have drawn attention to the police and they would have been fined or asked to leave many of the spots they have camped at for free.  We shared coffee and stories and they told us they had to go back to work at the end of the week.

From there we went to a town of Rivadesella where the albergue had just opened up 3 days prior and was charging 19€ each with no wifi.  We moved on after having no luck with warmshowers.org or Airbnb.  It was low season but it was full of tourists at one hotel that I went to  I was told it was "completo"

We rode on another 4-5 k to San Esteban an Albergue just about in the middle of nowhere, but full of pilgrims due to the lack of albergues in the prior town..  We had bought meat, cheese pate and bread earlier in the day knowing that it would be our dinner.

After getting cleaned up – we had dinner out in the yard and had a conversation with a coach out of Panama City who was also riding his bike but at a faster pace and more kilometers per day than us.  The temperature cooled off and when I thought I would go in to write I ended up falling asleep after such a long riding day.  This was the first time I had to sleep on the top bunk.  I did wake up a lot, once when Carmen yelled out Gabriela’s name in her sleep.
