Farmers Market in Eastsound

Saturday, June 11th

Eastsound to Ferry to Friday Harbor- 29 Miles

The day in Eastsound started off early,  at about 5:00 am Brady got up to let the chickens out of the coop, they were noisy and pecking at first, but we went right back to sleep and slept for another hour or so.   It was Saturday morning so we headed out to the Farmers Market in town.  We got into town before the crowds came in for the Farmers Market and visited many shops as they were opening and decided to have brunch at Mia's Restaurant.  After brunch we walked around a bit and made small purchases.  The market was nice but very expensive I bought a couple of sweets and a $3 dollar cookie that I shared with Carmen.  After walking around we decided it was time to go back to our Host's house and load our Panniers.  We rode back to the harbor to be close to the Early morning Ferry, which was 7 miles away.

We made the trip quite fast, as Carmen is getting stronger with the bike. Because we could not find a Warm Shower host for the night, we caught the Ferry into San Juan and checked in to the Orca Inn Hotel . Before we settled for the night we rode back into the town market and bought a salad, some meats and a dressing and ended up having it for dinner by the harbor and soon headed back to the hotel. On the way back Carmen saw a big Cherry tree that was loaded with Cherries.  She took a picture of me to send to Jessica as a reminder of The Camino trip.    It was the worse small hotel room we have every experienced.  We were not allowed to take the bikes into the room and had to lock them up outside. The room was so small the bed took most of the space, so even if we wanted to sneak the bikes into the room, there was no space.

PictureMy heart is healing!
Carmen -  This morning we woke at the crack of dawn...to the sound of chickens clucking and scratching around our tent.  After waking up and spending some time in the kitchen with the other campers and Brady, who was there representing the host family we packed our tent and items.  Brady shared about how he is also a cyclist and met the family thru cycling.  While in the kitchen I saw pictures of the hosts's wedding - with their bikes!  Brady shared that the wedding party and friends all rode on their bikes to the site of the wedding....such a beautiful and unique way to celebrate what you love with who you love. Brady gave us ideas on where to go into town and we decided to ride without our panniers to look around and have something to eat.
We had brunch and then walked over to the market, and I soon wished I had not eaten so much because the smell of the pizza being baked outdoors in a big oven was delicious.  I settled for sharing Robert's big cookie and walked around seeing the different stands with jewelry, art, fruits, goat cheese and pastries.  Robert had a fried apple pastry which he did not share with me.  The flowers everywhere continue to amaze me - they are everywhere.  I saw some beautiful big yellow roses that reminded me of my mom's yellow roses.  The Ferry ride has become easier for me - I am now riding on to the boat, not walking my bike on.  I love the clam chowder offered in the kitchen / restaurant of the ferry!  The day has been filled with so much today - even tho we did not ride many miles, the hills and the new sights have filled my day.  I think I am getting stronger!
