On our ride between Linz and towards Vienna , Austria it was already late when we saw the sign for the Mauthausen Memorial - KZ-Gedenkstätte. - It was late and we knew we would arrive after closing time, but Carmen had read that we could still walk around the facility, the climb to the top was hard, we ended up unpacking our panniers about a kilometer from the top and hid them in bushes and rode our bikes the rest of the way without gear, we felt that our gear would be safely hidden.

As we walked around the memorial and now only two or three other It reminded me of my dad who was not in a war camp but a Communist Labor Camp for over a year after declaring our family anti-communist under Castro in Cuba before we were allowed to leave to America. after about an hour we rode on to a campsite called Au an der Donao were we set up our tent and went up to the restaurant/beer hall and had a couple of beers some snacks while we saw the ending of a summer festival.
