![]() Nov 22nd - Driving near Rockland we found the Rockland Breakhouse Light house were Carmen made the long walk out to the Lighthouse, while I stayed behind and collected small rocks from the rocky beach.
We drove around a bit and after lunch headed towards Kennebunk Port and visited some of the shops there, it was now late and we needed a place for the night, we looked but never did see the Bush compound, but later were told that no one can get into the area where the Bush Family lives. Leaving town by chance took a turn off State Route 9 after crossing the Kennebunk River just to try to catch a little more of the town, when we see the Franciscan Guest House and hoped it would take in guest, the parking lot only had one car, I thought maybe it was a just the caretaker for the off-season, but we drove in and were surprise that they took us in and the price was only $65 a night which included a very nice breakfast which we enjoyed in the morning, it was a great price compared to the rest of the area were a room can go for two or three times the price in season. The place was a bit dated, more of a place like the one in Dirty Dancing the movie, more from the 1950's. |
![]() The retreat reminded me of the monastery in Spain in which we stayed because we were the only guest for the night which had just about been the case in Spain Out of town now we stopped to see a light house, Carmen made the walk of almost a mile all the way to the house and I stayed behind and collected small rocks from the beach. Early in the morning Carmen went out for a walk while a slept in a little , she walked the garden the Grotto and another outdoor statue, we then had breakfast almost by ourselves and a few of the staff which seemed to be from the Ukraine.
Now headed south from Maine, crossing the Piscataqua River, entering Portsmouth, New Hampshire , Carmen took some beautiful pictures of a Boat House with lots of Buoys on the side of it, we ended up stopping for lunch and coffee at a place called Popovers on the Square and going into a few shops including River Run Book Store where Carmen found a book. In the early afternoon we headed back to the car and ended up getting a parking ticket. We had not seen the limited parking time sign and ended up with a fine on the car windshield all wet from the ongoing rain. |
