Boston - Thanksgiving Week 2017

We had several places we looked at going to for Thanksgiving Break, for the 1st time in a while we had the entire week off from school. We talked about San Francisco but we had been there before, a few other places came up but Boston and the Northeast we had not gone to before. We had plenty of points to travel for free with JetBlue and lots of Marriott Points for Hotels to cover all the major expenses. We knew that it would be cold, I had been following the weather, it had snowed in the area the weekend before but it cleared up, we had a very cold Christmas holiday before in Santa Fe so I thought as long as it did not snow too much it would be enjoyable.
The morning of the 17th , a Friday , we both went to school but for no more than an hour, we could not take the Friday before a holiday off. We had mostly all packed from the night before. We made it to Hobby with plenty of time, as always we try to pre-plan as much as possible to take away the worries of the what ifs. A 5 minute Uber ride from the house and thanks to our Pre Check status and a quick security check we waited at our terminal for over an hour for our flight to JFK. I thought both flights were very smooth on Carmen's anxiety, but she did tell me later that that she wanted to take one of her pills but controlled the pressure of flying by writing.
Our layover at JFK was less than an hour and the flight from New York to Boston was under an hour. We arrived at about 5 pm but it was already dark, we took the silver line from the airport to the nearest subway line to our hotel which was the World Trade Center Stop. We did not escape the rain on the way to the hotel which was just about a 15 minute walk. Thanks to SPG points we stayed at the Boston Aloft Seaport for two nights before picking up our rental car at Logan.
After settling in we walked over to the port and got dinner at Legal Harborside, we shared a steak, a couple of local beers and desserts and afterwards walked around a bit, but were tired from being on flights all day and the low temperature made us get back to the hotel. We had hoped for some entertainment at the hotel but had no luck.
Nov 18th - In the morning the sun was out, still in the 30's but it felt good, we walked towards the Freedom Trail and had brunch at The Black Rose - an Irish Pub, before starting our walk of the trail. Walking the trail we stopped often for pastries and the Historical sites such as statue of Paul Revere on his horse. Around midday we had a small Clam Chowder and visited some of the shops at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. While on the walk along the Harbor we had a chance to see students rowing/training with their boats, we were surprised to see that all ages and sexes were training. We could see the strain on their faces as they were pushed by their coach.

Several hours of walking later we reached the Obelisk at the Bunker Hill Monument. After walking in we had the option to walk within the Obelisk to the top, I knew I could not take it with my knees coming down and Carmen told me she did not want to do the climb without me. We now took the route backwards but wanted to see the shipyard where the USS Constitution Museum is. On the way we stopped off to have tea at a small shop to warm up. The young girl that was serving us was very talkative and shared that she loved Texas and Houston, that her sister lives in NASA area.
While at the USS Constitutional Museum I had a conversation with a store staff member, whom I asked for a short cut back to our starting point. He told me we could actually take a ferry from the Charleston Navy Yard Ferry Terminal, which was just a couple of minutes walk away, pretty much all the way around the Harbor and get great looks of Boston and it was just a couple of dollars as opposed to a Harbor Scenic tour that would have cost us much more. The ferry ride reminded me of some of the ferry rides in Spain. We both enjoy Ferry's, having taken so many in the past few years with the ones in San Juan Islands and Victoria , BC We chose to stand outside on the boat even though it was very cold, another passenger joined us to take pictures of the beautiful scene. This ferry left us by the New England Aquarium and back where we wanted to be in central Boston.
